I’ve boycotted all Firestone’s since 2008. Asking about a second opinion (ie "Is the shop trying to fleece me?"), please read through CJM8515's post on the subject. They will likely charge you for every piddly little thing, as well as try and sell you all kinds of services and things that usually arent needed. My advice, go work at the busiest shop you can find! That's the one you want to be at (independent or not). Having a mechanic you can trust is worth the extra time and will save you a lot of money and headaches in the end and is worth losing your car for the day. It is worth it if you use it, but it depends on the car and the shop. They work you hard for garbage pay. I’m accustomed to working 50+ hours a week so that’s no complaint from me, the pay is worth it. All-road, crossover, gravel, monster-cross, road-plus, supple tires, steel frames, vintage bikes, hybrids, commuting, bike touring, bikepacking, fatbiking, single-speeds, fixies, Frankenbikes with ragbag parts and specs, etc. The shop is well maintained, all lifts, balancers, machines, etc. I don't want to be a dick, but not the kind of place I'd bring a vehicle for work. I'm sure there might be a few competent managers at Firestone shops, but very rare.
